The Octopus vs the Lighthouse

Originally this was going to be a sketch of a lighthouse. Nothing more, nothing less. Then a tentacle made an appearance, followed by another until It appeared. Probably channeling my love of Ray Harryhausen and Japanese giant monster movies.

The Octopus Vs The Lighthouse, 7.5"x5"

With apologies to Mssrs. Ray Harryhausen and the late Ray Bradbury, who wrote the short story The Foghorn, in which a lonely prehistoric creature mistakes a lighthouse horn for another of his kind.

I hope you enjoy this sketch as much as I enjoyed drawing it.

Oscar

PS. This sketch was originally titled "I'd rather see this than another pretty lighthouse picture". That isn't true. The fact is I love lighthouses. If I ever make a live action short movie, it will definitely feature a lighthouse (but without an octopus). :)

The world really does need more pictures like this. There are already a lot of lighthouse pictures! :)

Thanks for the comment.

I have to agree with you about needing more pictures like this one. However, I do like lighthouses so I'm alright with more. There is just so much fun lore about them, plus they always make a great setting for movies.

Peter, thanks for visiting. Lord knows I try to be original. Glad you like it.

As an aside, to those who read the comments, please visit Peter's blog, The Watercolour Log. It's one of my favorites. You will not only encounter some very nice work, but you'll enjoy some informed opinions about watercolor. Highly recommended.
